From alpine wilderness, to the Columbia River breaks, Kittitas County affords an incredible range of outdoor recreation opportunities that require a base camp, or just an overnight bivouac.
With some restrictions, dry camping is possible in the L.T. Murray Wildlife Area and the Wenatchee National Forest. Established campgrounds with varying levels of services are listed below.

Baker Creek Campground

This is a primitive campground with few amenities. At Baker Creek Campground entertaining stuff to do is plentiful, and camping is such an enjoyable activity, and this is a splendid place to do that. If you like the outdoors, you won’t be let down; there's swimming, hiking, fishing, and whitewater paddling, so running out of cool stuff to do won’t happen.

Beverly Campground

Located at 3100ft elevation. 16 campsites in fir trees are located on the North Fork Teanaway River. Area activities include picnicing, fishing,wading in the river, and hiking area trails. Find this campground 25 miles from Cle Elum, go east 7 miles on Hwy 970 to North Fork Teanaway Road, then 17 miles north to the site on FR 9737

Bonanza Campground

This is a primitive campground with few amenities. There are so many amusing things to do in close proximity to Bonanza Campground, and when you're here you're always having a magnificent time. Some of the things you can do here at Bonanza Campground are hiking, whitewater paddling, fishing, and swimming, so you won’t get bored. A great spot for whitewater paddling

Cayuse Campground

At the end of the Cle Elum Valley Road #903, north side of road, 19 miles north of Cle Elum. Must have livestock to camp at Cayuse Campground. Facilities: Potable water, flush toilets, community kitchen, stoves, tables, loading ramp, troughs, corrals and hitching posts. Units: 13 camping. Activities: Tent and trailer camping, picnicking, fishing, hunting, hiking, horseback riding in the area.

Cle Elum River Campground

2200ft elevation. 23 campsites and a group site, which can accomodate up to 100 people, are located at the head of Cle Alum Lake. The campgrounds are in a mixed conifer forest and surrounded by mountains. Activities include fishing, boating on the lake, and hiking nearby trails including Howson Creek Trail #1349 for hiking, horse riding, and mountain biking.

De Roux Campground

On North Fork Teanaway Road #9737, 29 miles north of Cle Elum. Fees: Northwest Forest Pass required, Day, 5; Annual, $30 annual. Facilities: Vault toilet, tables, fire grills, no potable water. Units: 6 camping or picnicking. Parking for 8 vehicles with trailers. Activities: Camping, picnicking, fishing, hunting, hiking, horseback riding, motorcycle riding.

Dickey Creek Campground

This is a primitive campground with few amenities. Some activities at Dickey Creek Campground are fishing, hiking, swimming and whitewater paddling. The Northern Cascade Ranger scenery is charming.

Dry Creek Campground

This is a primitive campground with few amenities. This is a beautiful stream worth going to. Activities near this campground include hiking the Lost Lake Trail, whitewater paddling, hiking, fishing, and swimming.

Eagle Valley Campground

The place where fun, friendship and fraternalism shine all summer long. Over 100 camp sites, most with water and power hook ups. 40 plus acres, just 90 minutes east of Seattle. Dry Camping, water and power hook ups, tents, RV storage, and day use only all available at this campgrounds.

Fish Lake Campground

Near Tucquala Lake approximately 29 miles from Cle Elum on the Cle Elum Valley Road. The road is paved to Salmon la Sac, 19 miles north of Cle Elum. The # 4330 road beyond is not paved and is narrow and rough in places. Facilities: Vault toilets, tables, stoves, guard station, no potable water. Units: 3, camping or picnicking. Activities: Camping, picnicking, photography, berry picking, fishing, hunting, hiking, birding and wildflower viewing.

Indian Camp Campground

This is a primitive campground with few amenities. Hiking is the number one attraction to this campground however you are very close to Suncadia Prospector Golf course if you’re a golfer hike on over! Fishing, swimming and whitewater paddling also close by this campground.

Lion Rock Spring Campground

This is a primitive campground with few amenities. Among the things you can do in the vicinity of Lion Rock Spring Campground are swimming, fishing, whitewater paddling, and hiking. There's whitewater, check out Rill Adventures Raft Rentals for all you adrenaline kick people. There's good hiking along the Devils Gulch Trail. Marion Lake is in the vicinity; hiking is a popular thing to do around Lion Rock Spring Campground; Miller Peak Trail is a glorious local trail.

Mineral Springs Resort Campground

Hiking at its best is close to this campground. Fishing, swimming and whitewater paddling are also available.

Mountain River Trails Camping

Mountain River Trails Camping Association is a member only facility. The Association is owned by the membership. Non-members may only camp when accompanied by a member

Park Campground

This is a primitive campground with few amenities. Park Campground lakes are nice; Snow Lakes is a lake that's near Park Campground. Old Blewett Pass is near Park Campground and is unquestionably a tremendous place to stop by, and Park Campground is a location with many visitors from Ellensburg.

Red Mountain Campground

On Cle Elum Valley Road #903, 16 miles north of Cle Elum. Possible Day Use Fee. Facilities: Vault toilets, stoves, tables, no potable water. Units: 10 camping. Activities: Tent camping, picnicking, fishing, hiking.

Scotty Creek Campground

This is a primitive campground with few amenities. Scotty Creek Campground is located in a vicinity with loads of exciting things to do, and camping is such an enjoyable thing to do, and this is a great place to do that. Near Scotty Creek Campground you come across the Red Hill Trail which is a magnificent hiking trail, and paddling on Icicle Creek is so much fun.

Stewart Lodge

Nestled in the Cascade Mountains, Stewart Lodge is located in the heart of Cle Elum, Washington...a mere 90 minute scenic drive over Snoqualmie Pass from Seattle and sixty minutes across Blewett Pass to Leavenworth.

Swauk Campground

Located 27 miles northeast of Cle Elum on Hwy 97. 3200ft elevation. 22 tree shaded campsites, and a large picnic area with some sheltered tables are located on Swauk Creek, a few miles south of Blewett Pass. Hiking trail is nearby. The area has 3 winter recreation areas. The snowparks have snowmobiling and cross country ski trails.

Taneum Campground

Located at Taneum Drainage south of interstate 90, South of Cle Elum Washington. This is a motorcycle campground. The Northfork Taneum Trail #1377, Taneum Ridge Trail # 1363, South Cle Elum Ridge Trail # 1326, And Gooseberry Flat trial #1363 all connect to the campground. These trail tie to the whole Taneum and Manastash trail system as well as the little Naches trail system

Kachess Campground

Each site has a picnic table and a campfire pit with large grate. Most sites are large and have room for two vehicles (charge for extra vehicle) and some have room enough for one medium/large tent. One loop has double-family sites. Some sites require reservations, but most sites are first-come-first-get. Weekends usually fill during the summer, but if you arrive before mid-morning on Friday there are usually spots. Flush toilets. Potable water near sites. Lake level depends on how dry the summer is.

KOA Kampground

Set on the Yakima River, this KOA is a great base camp for fishing or rafting. Rent a raft on-site or buy a fishing pole at the campground store. Shuttles for boaters/rafters available for a fee. You're well-situated for touring the Clymer Museum of Art, searching for the Ellensburg blue agate, enjoying a concert at the Gorge Amphitheatre, hiking the John Wayne Trail, stargazing on Table Mountain or visiting Roslyn, where Northern Exposure was filmed. Central Washington University's campus and Chimposium also are located in town. This KOA features wooded sites, some right on the river. Wireless Internet is centrally located near the office/store.

4700ft elevation. 3 dispersed campsites without facilities. Campground is adjacent to Lt. Murray State Wildlife Area.


Five miles off the Cle Elum Valley Road above Lake Cle Elum at Cooper Lake. The turnoff is approximately 16 miles from Cle Elum. Possible Day Use Fee. Facilities: Vault toilets, stoves, tables, parking lot, boat launch, no potable water. Units: 22 walk-in camping only; camper/trailer facilities and parking not available. Activities: Camping, picnicking, fishing, hiking, photography, non-motorized boating.

Ginkgo Petrified Forest

Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park is a 7,470-acre park with year-round camping at Wanapum recreational area. The park features 27,000 feet of freshwater shoreline on the Wanapum Reservoir on the Columbia River. Petrified wood was discovered in the region in the early 1930s, which led to creation of the park as a national historic preserve. Ginkgo Petrified Forest is a registered national natural landmark. It is regarded as one of the most unusual fossil forests in the world.
